Exposures by Maryanne Buschini

Join us for the 1st Friday opening in the MAC Arts Center with Maryanne Buschini, from 5-7pm with an artist talk beginning at 5:45. The show will be in the Center through the last Sunday of the month.

STATEMENT:

Maryanne Buschini is a visual artist, and painter. In her figurative paintings, she explores the vulnerability that is part of the human condition. Using found photos as starting reference, her paintings’ subject matter and narrative concerns human emotional responses – those underlying feelings that expose themselves – whether we want them to or not.

Her body of work investigates relationships, origins, ancestors, history and community. A large part of her practice is exploring stories and ideas about the relationships in families, hierarchies, culture and place. Viewers often connect with familiar relationships and emotions in these paintings.

BIO:
Maryanne Buschini is originally from Valhalla, NY. She has been drawing and painting since she was very young. Over the years she has explored diverse artistic routes – in addition to painting and teaching – designed and created sets for community theater, worked as a graphic designer for different profit and nonprofits, and painted portraits for military organizations. She lives with her husband, John Odell, in Malvern PA, where she maintains her painting studio. Together they raised 2 sons, and this year became grandparents.

An experienced artist and art educator, she has worked as a studio painter and taught art at the high school and college level in the Philadelphia area.  Her art degrees include:  BFA from Kansas State University; Master of Arts in Teaching Visual Arts from University of the Arts; coursework, workshops and graduate work at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; graduate Critical Theory courses at the Barnes Foundation.

Recently, she had a solo show of her body of work on the Kensico Reservoir and workers;  awarded an art residency at Bethany Arts Community in Ossining NY;  painting juried into the Art of the State at the Museum of the State of Pennsylvania, and the Woodmere Museum 80th Annual Juried Show.  Over the years, her artwork received multiple awards at juried shows throughout the Philadelphia area. Her work is featured at open studios and select art fairs, and included in collections in the US and Europe.
